T-Roy is a versatile, openly gay singer/songwriter from Yonkers, New York. He has chosen to revise neoclassic soul music, and it has been said that his creations have renewed, entertained, and educated many old-school Beboppers and Hip Hoppers. The development of his unique style is the result of a lifetime of musical influences and encounters. Growing up in New York, T-Roy was surrounded by a vibrant mix of music and culture. His father was a bass player/singer, and his stepfather was also a bass player. Senior members of his family exposed him to an abundance of music, shaping the foundation for his artistic growth.

As a teenager, T-Roy began exploring songwriting, inspired by his own life experiences and those of his friends and family. What began as scattered thoughts evolved into social commentary, expanding beyond personal stories. These early observances became unfinished poems set to music. Finding his rhythm in hip-hop, he committed to composing and singing—a decision he never turned away from.

T-Roy often emphasizes that every sound, song, and experience plays a role in his musical development. Among his biggest influences are Fela Kuti, Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, Anita Baker, John Coltrane, Stevie Wonder, and Annie Lennox. His creativity has also been enriched by travels throughout the United States, Morocco, Belize, Spain, France, Mexico, Italy, England, and Brazil.

Before fully embracing his path as a singer/songwriter, T-Roy began his career in entertainment as a modern dancer, later exploring ballet, tap, and jazz. At the time, hip-hop dance lacked formal classes or recognition as an art form. His training ground was the streets of New York City, an education that led to dinner theater performances and appearances at Alice Tully Hall in New York City.
